Default Jargon

Perhaps someone could write a quick explanation of some of the jargon and initials used in Affiliate Marketing to assist those newbies like me who still get flummoxed sometimes?

I'm sure I'm not the only one!

CPM = Cost per iMpressions -- pay is by how many 1,000 views an ad gets
CPC = Cost per Click -- pay is how often someone clicks the ad

As I understand it, CPM is better for trafficked websites, but CPC has higher "per view" yields if a lot of people click the ads.

Of course, avoid click fraud (clicking a CPC ad a bunch of times yourself to generate revenue).

thank you Bert. CPM was one of the ones that had me stuck, so I appreciate your input. I'd worked out what it referred to, but not what the initials stood for. Now I see it, I can understand why I couldn't work it out myself

Are there any more?

Oh yeah -- PPC and PPM . I would Google CPM and CPC trying to find programs, and found more about how to advertise than be a content provider. PPC and PPM is what keywords you'll want.

CTR - Click Through Ratio. It is a percent calculated from the total impressions and number of clicks.
