I've dealt with Constant Content a bit a couple years ago, but I think the articles there are more general.

How do these sites work? Is it that persons write their articles and submit them with their details or are paid for the articles they submit?

I think they write and submit it and in return they can get a backlink !

Oh I see, that's a small price to pay to have your site out there. I have seen the term "backlink" a few places. I have assumed that it having your link in a post or article that links to your website when a reader clicks on it. Am I right?

As far as I know, I think that's it. Creating a link that brings visitors to your site if they are curious and need to know more about the author of the article.
